Compared to other synthetic calcium phosphate materials used for bone substitution, octacalcium phosphate (OCP, Ca8H2(PO4)6 · 5H2O) receives relatively little attention from the research community. This is all the more surprising since OCP plays an important role as a precursor in the mineralization process of bone. In recent years, however, there has been an increase in studies showing that OCP is not only highly biocompatible, osteoconductive, and bioactive, but also stimulates cell activity and may even be osteoinductive.
As part of the Bioceramics33 conference, we are organizing a workshop on OCP with the aim to provide a forum for the world’s leading experts and industrial representatives to share their latest advances in OCP R&D, and emerging young scientists to engage in conversations with experts on all aspects of OCP application in medicine.
